They are putting a new containment system on the well today. If this works we can finally move on to the problem that is the largest of it’s kind, cleaning up the oil.

I wonder what BP’s next move will be after stopping the well. Hopefully they won’t seek any type of bankruptcy protection.

Storms in Gulf

Some researchers and scientists are saying that the storms in the gulf could actually be beneficial. The high winds will help evaporate the oil faster and the waves might help break up the larger oil slicks into smaller sections that the ocean can breakdown. It amazes me that the ocean can breakdown crude oil. It’s not easy to clean the oil off your feet but somehow the ocean is prepared to defend itself to some degree. Pretty incredible…

Blow Up the Leak

Apparently blowing up the oil leak is an option. I’ll admit I laughed when I heard President Clinton suggested blowing it up but scientists and the Navy confirm that strategically placed explosives will actually stop the leak permanently.

Could it be possible that BP is ignoring a permanent and immediate solution to the leak in order to see some return on their investment in this oil well? If so, then it certainly wouldn’t be the first illogical move by BP. I would think that stopping the leak is the most profitable avenue at this point in time.

“For the life of me, I can’t understand why BP couldn’t go into the ocean floor, maybe 10 feet lateral to the — around the periphery — drill a few holes and put a little ammonium nitrate, some dynamite, in those holes and detonate that dynamite and seal that leak. And seal it permanently,” Rep. Phil Gingrey (Ga.)

Boycott BP

I’m not convinced that boycotting BP gets the results everyone is looking for in this situation. There are other sites that have done the research on this….

I hope local BP gas station owners don’t lose their businesses over something that is so far from their control.

Don’t Need Help

The Jones Act of 1920 is keeping other countries out of the fight to clean up the oil in the gulf. Why wouldn’t they wave it and take the help that is needed.

This boat is coming to help but it’s not clear whether or not our government will let it help.
